Work in Progress —

1993

I was in the street in Llandudno and just considering “Do these people look Welsh or could they be Glaswegian?” I told a friend who was totally outraged that I could even start to think like this. The thought took Buchanan back to Glasgow and to the five-a-side pitches in Townhead. Each weekend last summer Buchanan turned up complete with camera and portable studio to set about building his own Inter and AC Milan composed entirely of Glaswegians. After watching a game Buchanan would invite those people who turned up wearing replica Italian strips to pose for him. The guys from Glasgow automatically adopted the stance of their San Siro heroes. ‘This started to build up another dimension to the pictures which became quite interesting because we were indulging each others fantasies; I was being the paparazzi to their stars.'
