For a number of years I have been embedded as artist in residence within the International Artist-Educator course in Arnhem in the Netherlands. I’ve worked in public settings throughout my career and learned organically what it feels like to make work in this context.
‘The international Master Artist-Educator (iMAE) at ArtEZ is a socially engaged master's programme focused on artistic research and issues-based art education. As an iMAE student, you will become part of a new generation of artists and develop into an artist-educator who uses art to promote equality and social justice.’
Being accredited as a UNESCO Centre for arts and learning in 2024, iMAE was invited to honour UNESCO policy and facilitate knowledge-exchange between the global north and the global south.
The Site-Specific College in Morocco facilitates working with students outside the academy where social, cultural or political issues are strongly present. With the current field school taking place in Morocco there is the potential to explore diasporic links between Morocco and the Netherlands with the aim of collaborating with local artists, activists and organisations developing research questions with those communities involved.
